It's SO painful . . .

to make the first run of the ski season with a non-fit body! I sluffed off all summer on getting in shape for skiing and I paid the price on that first attempt on Saturday. I was not even half way down the slope when the shins started screaming and the feet aching so badly. I made it down the slope at half speed with frequent stops to rest the legs and get my breath. At the bottom, I told Allen to go take a run without me as I had to rest! Meanwhile, while I'm waiting for Allen, the opening weekend crowd kept growing and growing resulting in long waits to get on the lift. Allen came down and said he was too tired and he did not want to fight the crowds. With great relief on my part, we went back to our lodge to spend Saturday and Sunday watching football (Allen) and sappy Lifetime movies (me).

This morning we got to slopes by 9. It was cold but the sun was warm, the parking lot mostly empty, the gondola not crowded, and the lift lines were fast moving. Got my skis on, headed to the lift line and ended up in an out of control snow plow that had my legs as far apart as they could go. My first thought was that if I don't get some help I'm going to fall and it's going to hurt very much. Fortunately, sweet hubby was close enough to grab hold of me and get me back under control. The snow was slick and I forgot to set my quads thus, the snowplow. But the next two hours were great. Only two runs were open but they were good ones. I so enjoy just taking my time getting down the slope, remembering the techniques for good form and practicing. By end of 2nd hours my quads were starting to hurt and I started doing stupid moves. That's when I decided it was time to quit. I would have loved to do one more run but I knew that would probably be the one to do me in.

Three more days of skiing and then home. We also have plans to go to Silverthorne one afternoon to shop at the outlet mall and go see a movie.

The best part of these trips that we take, is that Allen and I get to spend more one on one time with each other than we do at home. When you have a three room condo, there is lots of together time for snuggling on the sofa while watching TV.
